We all know what it’s like – you pull up to an exotic destination with your $120 million superyacht and everyone’s looking.

Okay, maybe we don’t – but the late Steve Job’s wife, Laurene Powell Jobs, certainly does.

Her Venus superyacht is accustomed to turning heads wherever it goes, and that’s exactly what happened when the luxury yacht was recently spotted on Australia’s beautiful Gold Coast.

The futuristic 256-foot-long beauty docked at Southport Yacht Club after sailing into the Seaway earlier this week.

And to be fair, it doesn’t look out of place in the idyllic city famed for its long sandy beaches, surfing spots, and gastronomic paradise.

Well, not entirely out of place.

And it’s not the first time Venus superyacht has been spotted in Australia.

Last year, the superyacht was spotted in Cairns, where it dwarfed every other boat in the harbor.

However, its not just its size that makes Venus a stellar ship .

The vessel’s exterior is dominated by a striking silver paint job, gleaming stainless-steel details, and a line of rectangular windows.

Built by Feadship and designed by Philippe Starck, she is long and lean, with an 11.8 meter beam and a low-slung superstructure made entirely of glass.

Starck designed Venus’ exterior with straight lines and 90-degree angles.

She has an axe bow, and an unusual flat, squared stern, which opens to reveal a tender garage.

The long forward deck, planked in teak, is completely free of clutter.

Notably, she has no visible radar arch or satellite equipment; all of this is hidden within a box to keep Venus’s exterior extremely clean.

Venus’s minimalist style, reminiscent of Apple products, extends to the interior, where multiple Mac computer screens line the bridge windows.

Other than glimpses into the bridge, the Venus superyacht’s interior has never been seen publicly.

But what we do know is, the ship can be controlled with an iPhone-like device, and that it sleeps 12 guests in six well-designed cabins, served by a crew of 22.

Sadly, Jobs never had the chance to set foot on board before his untimely death in 2011, the year before the superyacht launched.

“There will never again be a boat of that quality. Because never again will two madmen come together to accomplish such a task,” Starck said in an interview with Vanity Fair.

“There’ll never again be so much creativity, rigor, and above all, philosophy applied to a material creation,” he added.

“It was not a yacht that Steve and I were constructing; we were embarked on a philosophical action implemented according to a quasi-religious process. We formed a single brain with four lobes.”

Iconic yachts: On board Steve Jobs's Feadship superyacht Venus

Perhaps it’s her famous owner, unique exterior or the total secrecy surrounding the project, but there are few superyachts that are more captivating than the utterly iconic yacht Venus . Built by Feadship and designed by Philippe Starck , 78.2-metre Venus was launched in October 2012.

Venus is a fully custom creation, built for the late Apple founder Steve Jobs, who Feadship says (as seen on its website) had a hand in her completely unique design. Sadly, Jobs never had the chance to set foot on board before his untimely death in 2011, the year before Venus was launched. The yacht remains in the family, now owned by his widow Laurene Powell Jobs. Venus is entirely private and not available for charter. Jobs was widely reported saying the following to his biographer: “I know that it’s possible I will die and leave Laurene with a half-built boat. But I have to keep going on it. If I don’t, it’s an admission that I’m about to die.”

The yacht has been shrouded in secrecy since her inception, with the yard unable to comment on one of its most fascinating yachts even to this day. But with a famous name like Steve Jobs attached to the project, she was bound to garner attention. However, it’s not merely having a high-profile owner that makes this yacht interesting – Venus’s exterior profile is also incredibly unique.

This is one of the first things that yacht photographer Giovanni Romero noticed when he shot Venus . Romero was the first to photograph Venus when she arrived in the Mediterranean on a cold January morning after her shakedown voyage from the Feadship yard in The Netherlands.

“What really struck me was the glass, the polished metal, the minimalist look – and the fact that you couldn’t see any satellites or anything distracting from her exterior design,” says Giovanni Romero. “The sun had just started to rise, so I could really appreciate all the glass panels and the reflection off her hull.” He says shooting Venus was an experience he will never forget.

The minimalist yet eye-catching exterior style of Venus is reminiscent of an Apple product, like the iPhone or iPad. And, when photographers have gotten up close, photos have revealed that Venus has no ordinary bridge – instead, multiple Mac computer screens line the inside of the bridge windows. “I remember being very close and looking up at the bridge and seeing a row of computers. It was so unusual!” says Romero. 

Other than glimpses into the bridge, Venus’s interior has never been seen publicly, so we can only imagine what it might look – perhaps the sleek yet welcoming feeling of an Apple store? “Think Different” has been Apple’s longtime slogan, and it’s clear that Jobs wanted to create something amazingly different with his iconic yacht Venus .

Donovan, 55, who recently returned Down Under to perform in The Rocky Horror Picture Show , was spotted sunning himself on the glamorous yacht in Sydney Harbor on Monday afternoon.

The father-of-three looked carefree as he enjoyed the beautiful scenery while enjoying some bonding time together with 24-year-old Jemma.

At one point the Aussie actor and singer was seen taking a moment for himself and snapping a shirtless selfie as the sun shone down on the yacht.

Jemma previously followed in her dad’s legendary footsteps after appearing in Neighbours between 2019 and 2022.

However, she eventually ditched Australia for the UK and joined Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks where she met her boyfriend, co-star Owen Warner.

Donovan also currently lives in the UK with his wife Angela, but he regularly makes the trip back Down Under.

It comes after the reformed drug addict recently made an honest confession about his past.

In an interview with The Guardian, Donovan shared the one thing he would change about his past if he could go back in time.

“My relationship with drugs,” he confessed.

Back in 2021, Donovan confessed that he had secretly smoked marijuana on the set of the soap Neighbours during a break in filming.

Donovan, who played Scott Robinson, snuck round the back of Lassisters, the soap’s fictional hotel, to light up with co-star David Clencie.

But Donovan was caught out when he was suddenly called to appear in a scene.

The 52-year-old revealed: “One afternoon, when I had finished all my scenes for the day, David asked me whether I wanted to share a joint with him.

“I’d never smoked at work before but this was all too tempting.”

“We were sitting on the ground, smoking, laughing and getting progressively more stoned, when I suddenly heard my name called. I was wanted on set! There had been a change to the schedule.

“Having stubbed out my doobie, cleaned my teeth in the make-up room, put eye drops into my eyes and dusted myself down, I went back onto set.

“I tried to act as normally as possible, but it was an absolute disaster,” he continued.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
