Spirit of Eeath, Spirit Ball V

Spirit Ball Mode

The Spirit of Earth is one of five powerful elemental spirits known as the Grand Elemental Spirits of the Patch Tribe . They are derived from the Great Spirit itself, and like it, constitute a collective of souls. Their power is unmatched by any other spirit, except for the Great Spirit itself. Like the Spirit of Fire , the Spirit of Earth has the ability to become stronger by consuming souls. [3]

The Spirit of Earth has a cockpit on its back, which can be shifted to the top of its head, allowing a person to ride within it. [4] [5]

After Hao stole the Spirit of Fire , the Patch Tribe hid the other Grand Elemental Spirits to prevent them from being stolen as well. Within the depths of hell, the Spirit of Earth was guarded by Enma Daioh , one of the rulers of Hell . Before the finals of the Shaman Fight 2000 in Tokyo , Sati Saigan and Team "Myooh" went to Hell to retrieve the Five Elemental Spirits and deliver them to the Five Elemental Warriors. [6] Sati succeeded in defeating Enma and freeing the Spirit of Earth for Asakura Yoh . [7]

After the final fight, Yoh kept the Spirit of Earth. [8]

O.S

O.S: Spirit of Earth

  • Shaman: Asakura Yoh
  • O.S. Type: Spirit Type
  • Spirit Ally: Spirit of Earth (Kami Class Spirit)
  • Medium: Earth

Description : When Over Souled by Asakura Yoh, it gains its entire body. Its movements seem to follow that of Yoh himself. The Spirit of Earth can also manipulate gravity, enough to counter the gravity of a black hole and allow those who are affected by the Spirit of Earth's gravity to move freely. [4]

  • Attraction ( 引力 ( アトラクション ) , Atorakushon ) : This attack relies upon the principle of using the significant gravitational forces generated by the real Earth's large mass, altering the trajectory of incoming attacks to avoid damage. As such, the technique acts as an effective defensive move, even protecting from the large number of meteors that the O.S. Great Spirit can produce. [4]

Anime/Manga Difference [ ]

The Spirit of Earth does not appear in the 2001 anime series, as Spirit of Fire appears to be a single, powerful entity under the Patch's control rather than a member of this group, though it was mentioned that there were four other spirits worshiped by the Patch other than the Spirit of Fire. [9]

Spirit of Earth Spirit Ball Mode

Spirit of Earth's original Spirit Ball Mode

  • When its Spirit Ball Mode first appeared, its only distinctive feature was the pattern on its head. This was later changed on the cover of Shaman King The Super Star Volume 1, where its shoulder armor was added.
  • In the comic, Japanese name of Spirit of Earth ( スピリット・オブ・アース ) can be seen on the spirit's back in some scenes. [10]
  • In the first chapter of Shaman King The Super Star , a presumed clone of Spirit of Earth was depicted to be yellowish in coloration and has slightly different look. [5]

“Pej/ Kanji (rice gruel) makes for a great health drink because it allows for better assimilation of Vit D & calcium,” explains nutritionist and fitness expert Rujuta Diwekar. And Ambemohar was the rice used by people in Maharashtra (particularly the Mulshi region in Pune) to prepare this nutritious dish, and it was relished by children and adults.

This short and low yielding grain has the aroma of mango blossoms, hence the name( Ambe means mango, mohar means flowers). It was extensively used in Maharashtra for religious ceremonies and during festivals; the rice was also used to make puffed rice called murmure; the bran from this grain has been used for oil extraction and mushroom cultivation. However since the yield was low, a hybrid variant called Indrayani with ambemohar parentage was developed by the Rice Research Centre near Lonavala. Due to this, farmers gave up this traditional grain in the late 1980s. Awarded a GI tag in 2016, Mulshi Ambemohar rice is believed to have been a favourite of the Peshwa rulers.

Soak the Ambe Mohar raw rice for 2-3 hours before cooking. Cook it in the ratio of 1:4 (For 1 cup rice, add 4 cups water). Please adjust the water ratio according to your preference.

Anandanoor Sanna

This traditional variety is named after the region it was cultivated, namely Anandanoor. After interactions with local farmers, we believe this could be around modern day Salem district. Sanna indicates the fine, delicate feature of this grain as Sanna refers to fine and thin in Tamil. This is a slender white grain and cooks very well making Anandanoor Sanna a preferred choice for tamarind rice, sambar rice and every day rice preparations. Ananda also means joy, which holds true in the case of this rice because of its light texture and easy to digest properties!

Soak the Anandanoor Sanna Raw polished rice for 10 mts before cooking. Cook it in the ratio of 1:2.5 (For 1 cup rice, add 2.5 cups water). Please adjust the water ratio according to your preference.

In the Spirit of the Earth

Calvin luther martin.

As we prepare to count a new millennium, an award-winning historian questions the very nature of "historical time." This meditation by an award winning historian calls for a new way oflooking at the natural world and our place in it, while boldly challenging theassumptions that underlie the way we teach and think about both history andtime. Calvin Luther Martin's In the Spirit of the Earth is a provocativeaccount of how the hunter-gatherer image of nature was lost—with devastatingconsequences for the environment and the human spirit.

According to Martin, our current ideas about nature emerged...

According to Martin, our current ideas about nature emerged during neolithictimes, as humans began to domesticate animals and farm the land. In thehunter-gatherer mind, animals and plants were spiritual beings and the earth areliable provider. But in neolithic innovations Martin finds the roots of ourown curiously alienated relationship with other living things and with theearth itself. This alienation is revealed not only in our artifice—thetechnology that moves us further and further away from nature—but even in theway we speak about the world. It is revealed most dramatically, perhaps, inthe horrific destruction we have visited on animals and landscapes. Martin sees the shift to agricultural economies as a change in spiritual imagination. This new approach to food getting meant a new understanding ofourselves and the world—a new, powerful image of the self relative to plantsand animals. It led to food surpluses, a population boom, the appearance ofcities and ceremonial centers, and the emergence of priestly classes and rulingelites—in short, to all the achievements, follies, and horrors of"civilization."

Martin argues that history—his own discipline—and human centered historicalconsciousness lie at the heart of this ultimately destructive ideology. Notions of order and progress, of a chosen people and linear time, fuel oursense that the world is ours to improve, exploit, and even destroy. We need torediscover the wisdom and sanity of less presumptuous ideas of nature—aprocess that demands a much larger narrative than historians have been writingand telling. Without calling for a return to hunting and gathering, Martinasks if some of what we lost—or left behind—in the distant past might bereclaimed and used again. To make peace with the earth. To make peace withourselves.

"Many will respond with that oft heard reply, But we cannot go back! To which I respond, But we never left—never left our true, real context, thatis. Homo is still here on this planet earth, abiding in our most fundamentaland necessary nature by its fundamental and necessary terms. We left all ofthat only, really, in our fevered imagination. It all began as an act ofimagination, an illusory image—most fundamentally, an image of fear—and so thecorrective process must likewise begin with an image. Let us re-learn, as hunter-gatherers knew to the core of their being, that this place and itsprocesses (even in our death) always takes care of us—that Homo's citizenship, and errand, rest not with any creed or state, but with 'that star's substancefrom which he had arisen.'"—from In the Spirit of the Earth

It just may be a sign that the wind is turning when a Rutgersprofessor of history writes a book (and gets it published)debunking historical time and civilization... Martin finds, inneolithic time consciousness, a key ingredient in the control ofthe natural world, and locates the 'ideological origins of humanbondage' in animal domestication.

Martin has given us a new map for imagining the world around us and our place in it.

Eloquently, Calvin Martin speaks again to the major issues that define human existence in our time. In the Spirit of the Earth is a fascinating evocation of our past and of our future. It is a vision of the spiritual imagination of humankind, centered and sharply defined. It ought to be read carefully and considered deeply. It is an important book.

A compelling indictment of 'history's hammerlock on our imagination' and apassionate inquest into the possibility of a new historical consciousnessresponsible as much to the rest of nature as it is to humankind.

  • B.A., History, Ohio University

Each of the four cardinal elements - earth, air, fire and water - can be incorporated into magical practice and ritual. Depending on your needs and intent, you may find yourself drawn to one of these elements more so that the others.

Connected to the North, Earth is considered the ultimate feminine element. The Earth is fertile and stable, associated with the Goddess. The planet itself is a ball of life, and as the Wheel of the Year turns, we can watch all the aspects of life take place in the Earth: birth, life, death, and finally rebirth. The Earth is nurturing and stable, solid and firm, full of endurance and strength. In color correspondences, both green and brown connect to the Earth, for fairly obvious reasons! In Tarot readings, the Earth is related to the suit of Pentacles or Coins .

Let’s look at some of the many magical myths and legends surrounding earth, from societies and religions around the world.

Earth Spirits

In many cultures, earth spirits are beings that are tied to the land and plant kingdom. Typically, these beings are associated with another realm, the forces of nature that inhabit a particular physical space, and landmarks like rocks and tees.

In Celtic mythology, the realm of the Fae is known to exist in a parallel space with the land of man. The Fae are part of the Tuatha de Danaan , and live underground. It’s important to watch out for them, because they’re known for their ability to trick mortals into joining them.

Gnomes feature prominently in European legend and lore. Although it’s believed that their name was coined by a Swiss alchemist named Paracelsus, these elemental beings have long been associated in one form or another with the ability to move underground.

Likewise, elves often appear in stories about the land. Jacob Grimm collected a number of stories about elves while compiling his book Teutonic Mythology, and says that elves appear in the Eddas as supernatural, magic-using beings. They appear in a number of old English and Norse legends.

The Magic of the Land

Ley lines were first suggested to the general public by an amateur archaeologist named Alfred Watkins in the early 1920s. Ley lines are believed to be magical, mystical alignments in the earth. One school of thought believes that these lines carry positive or negative energy. It is also believed that where two or more lines converge, you have a place of great power and energy. It is believed that many well-known sacred sites, such as Stonehenge , Glastonbury Tor , Sedona and Machu Picchu sit at the convergence of several lines.

In some countries, spirits associated with various landmarks became minor, localized deities. The ancient Romans accepted the existence of  genius loci,  which were protective spirits associated with specific locations. In Norse myth, the Landvættir are spirits, or wights, directly associated with the land itself.

Today, many modern Pagans honor the spirits of the land by celebrating Earth Day , and use it as a time to reaffirm their roles as stewards of the earth.

Deities Associated with Earth

If you're hoping to do an earth meditation or ritual, you can honor some of the different gods and goddesses associated with the land. If you follow a Celtic-based path, consider reaching out to Brighid or  Cernunnos . In the Roman pantheon,  Cybele  is a mother goddess who is associated with the earth.

For Greek or Hellenic Pagans, Dionysus or  Gaia  might be appropriate to call upon. If your belief is more along the lines of Egyptian or Kemetic reconstruction, there's always Geb, who is associated with the soil. Do you have an interest in Hawaiian gods and goddesses? Consider working with Pele, who is associated not only with volcanoes , but with the islands themselves.

Earth Magic

In most modern Pagan traditions and magical belief systems, earth is associated with security and stability. It can be evoked in magic related to the stability of the home and family, as well as abundance and wealth; think of crops and gardens if you're not sure why earth and soil are associated with abundance! During ritual practice, earth is sometimes designated as a sacred space, and is often marked out in a circle with salt. On your magical altar, you may wish to use a bowl of clean soil, crystals, salt, seeds, or even animal statuary to represent the element of earth.

Spirit of Earth - Shaman manga

The Spirit of Earth in World of Warcraft: Shaman .

The Spirit of Earth is the spirit of everything encompassing the land - a shaman may speak to it when in need of help. [1]

There is one for each world. [2]

Azeroth Spirit [ ]

The Spirit of Earth of Azeroth describes itself as the soil that yields the fruit, the grasses that feed the beasts, the rock, the bones of this world and that grows and lives in its womb, from worm to tree and flower.

During Thrall's shamans test the Spirit of earth showed it's power, giving Thrall a warm and strong feeling and he felt as solid as the bones of the earth. Then the earth erupted into enormous fissures, and on every inch of what was rock, flowers bloomed. The Spirit of Earth left Thrall, leaving him trembling with shock. [3]

Outland Spirit [ ]

The Spirit of Earth of the Outlands first communicated with Nobundo after the orcs abandoned Shamanism in favor of practicing with fel magic. Sensing in Nobundo a kindred spirit due to the feeling of neglect and abuse, due to the cataclysm of Draenor, it together with the other three elemental spirits of outlands, taught Nobundo the path of the shaman and helped him spread it to the remnants of the Draenei society.

Earth voice is low and persistent. This spirit lent his strength to Nobundo, when he was exhausted, and gave him resolve, a steel will, and unshakable determination after years of training. [2]

Alternate Draenor Spirit [ ]

On the alternate Draenor , the Spirit of Earth was subjugated by some wretched creatures in Shadowfall Canyon . [4]

  • Spirit of Earth : I am the Spirit of Earth, Thrall, son of Durotan. I am the soil that yields the fruit, the grasses that feed the beasts. I am the rock, the bones of this world. I am all that grows and lives in my womb, be it worm or tree or flower. Ask me. Thrall : "Ask you what?" Spirit of Earth : Knowing the question is part of your test. Thrall :"Will you lend me your strength and power when I need it, for the good of the Clan and those we would aid?" Spirit of Earth : Ask Spirit of Earth : I have agreed to lend you my assistance, for the good of the Clan and those you would aid. Honor me, and that gift shall always be yours. - Azeroth Spirit of Earth to Thrall in his shaman test.

4-48 Spirits

Spirits of the Ten Legendary Warriors

DC S

The twenty Spirits can be used by both humans and Digimon; a human-type "H" Spirit will allow the user to employ the intelligent, human aspects of its corresponding warrior by spirit evolving into a Hybrid-level human Digimon that possesses Champion-level power, while a beast-type "B" Spirit will instead allow them to use the powerful, bestial aspects of the warrior by spirit evolving into a Hybrid-level beast Digimon that possesses Ultimate-level power. The "H" and "B" Spirits of Darkness are actually corrupted forms tainted by Cherubimon ; their natural forms are called the "L" and "K" Spirits, after Loweemon and KaiserLeomon . By using both the "H" and "B" Spirits of one element together in order to perform Fusion Evolution , the user can take on a "Fusion Form" that possesses Mega-level power, and by using the "H" and "B" spirits of five separate elements to perform Unified Spirit Evolution , they can reach an even more powerful "Transcendent Form". By using all twenty spirits together to perform Ancient Spirit Evolution to Susanoomon , the user can realize the ultimate manifestation of the Ten Legendary Warriors. Although the human forms are fairly easy to use, the beast forms require self-discipline to master, and the higher forms require a miraculous blessing to even attain.

Appearance [ ]

Gaia appears as a beautiful, mature woman with tan skin, dark hair with lighter streaks and light-colored eyes. She wears a long, purple dress, purple shoes, a thin, golden headband and two long, light-colored decorative pieces of material, one of which is wrapped around her left upper arm and the other is tied together with a hem of her dress on her right shoulder.

However, some details of her appearance may be slightly different, depending on which season, episode, or even scene, it is.

  • Her skin varies from goldish to only a few shades lighter than Kwame's.
  • Her hair can be dark blue or downright black; the highlights are white, silvery or light blue.
  • Her eyes started out as light violet to become blue later on.
  • Her lips and nails were pinkish at first to become red from late season 1.
  • Her dress went from dark to light purple.
  • The decorative strips of material can be white, pinkish or light violet.
  • Her shoes are either sandals or flip-flops.

Personality [ ]

In general, Gaia is kind-hearted and level-headed; the latter trait is most probably due to her age and long experience. However, if the Planeteers or any other living beings are in an immediate, great danger, she gets furious and rushes to the rescue without really thinking about possible consequences [4] [5] .

Powers and abilities [ ]

As the Spirit of Earth, Gaia has all the powers of nature at her command, and as such is tremendously powerful, though not omnipotent. Examples of powers she was shown to possess were:

  • Earth Symbiosis: The ability to gain powers through a symbiotic relationship with the Earth. Gaia gains power from and protects Earth and suffers as Earth is damaged.
  • Nature Intuition: The ability to have innate knowledge about nature and natural forces. Gaia possesses an innate sense to the state of Earth and nature, and as such has full knowledge and understanding of the damages that could be inflicted on nature and its forces, as well as the consequences of those damages.
  • Semi-Immortality: The ability to never age. As the Spirit of Earth, Gaia is ageless - as revealed in A Hero for Earth , she woke from a century-long nap, but still retained the youth and vitality of a beautiful woman in her physical prime. However, as shown in the likes of Heat Wave and Summit to Save Earth Part I and Part II , if Hope Island or the Earth itself were too severely damaged, she would become gravely ill and could even die.
  • Mystic Object Creation: The ability to create mystical or magical objects. Gaia created the five magic rings whose combined power could summon Captain Planet, and in Gorillas Will Be Missed , she created for Goki a virtual reality visor that, when he put it on, transported him two centuries back in time, and also enabled others to view his time when they put it on. Later on, after his mission was complete, and he returned back to his time through the visor, Gaia created for him a magic ring of earth like that of Kwame 's, effectively making him a Planeteer.
  • Teleportation: The ability to move oneself and/or others instantaneously from one location to another without physically occupying the space in between.
  • Nigh-Omnipresence (Earth) (limited): The ability to be almost everywhere in existence on Earth at once.
  • Holographic Projection: The ability to generate and project holograms.
  • Eruption Inducement: The ability to induce volcanic eruptions. As shown in The Conqueror , Gaia fired a magma attack that caused a volcano to erupt, which in turn banished Zarm's ship to outer space. Also, in Summit to Save Earth Part I , during her fight against Zarm, she induced a volcanic eruption that destroyed one of his attacks on her, sending out lava and ash to weaken him.
  • Timeline Vision Sharing: The ability to share one's visions of different timelines with others, letting others see whatever they see on those specific timelines. Through PlanetVision, Gaia shows the Planeteers the past, the present, and the possible future of ecological situations so they would better understand what was going on, as well as what they had to do.
  • Geomagnetism Manipulation: The ability to manipulate geomagnetic fields. As shown in Two Futures Part I and Part II , as the Spirit of Earth, Gaia could create, shape, and manipulate the Earth's geomagnetic fields.
  • Omnilingualism: The ability to speak, write, understand, and communicate in any language. As shown in the likes of The Ark and Fare Thee Whale , as the Spirit of Earth, Gaia could comprehend every language and form of communication in existence, and so is able to effectively converse with animals and even alien life forms (e.g. the Collector) alike.
  • Danger Sense (possibly) (limited): The ability to detect impending threats. As shown in Summit to Save Earth Part I , Gaia had the ability to sense dangers and threats that were nearing, or acute, or impending - she suffered a severe headache when Zarm returned to Earth, laughing evilly as he did so. However, given her initial ignorance of her headache cause until Zarm revealed himself, and how, in The Conqueror , she initially did not know of his return until Ma-Ti told her about it, it is highly likely that Gaia's sensing ability was limited and inconstant.
  • Levitation: The ability to levitate, to enable oneself to hover in the air unassisted, so oneself is able to seamlessly hover in the air and their body does not make contact with the ground below.
  • Transmutation: The ability to alter/transform the forms/structure of matter/energy. As shown in Summit to Save Earth Part I , during her fight against Zarm, Gaia transformed his toxic ooze attack into a swarm of butterflies, which she subsequently directed at him to weaken him.
  • Atmokinesis: The ability to sense, create, shape, and manipulate the weather. As shown in Summit to Save Earth Part I , due to her being the Spirit of Earth, Gaia has absolute control and authority over the weather, and could create any weather condition she desired, as well as utilise the meterological patterns as means of both offense and defense - during her fight against Zarm, she fired a lightning bolt at him, and created a snow storm to weaken him. Also, in The Unbearable Blightness of Being , she generated a thundering raincloud to water an apple tree, and later generated a wind to dry a wet monkey. After Blight forcefully possessed Gaia's body, she was also shown to be able to generate rainclouds, wind, thunder, and even lightning.
  • Animal Summoning: The ability to influence, control, and manipulate animals and birds. As shown in Summit to Save Earth Part II , Gaia could summon animals and birds to do her bidding, help her and her friends during situations, even use them against foes - while the Planeteers were "recharging" their rings, she summoned monkeys and birds to attack Zarm to distract him.
  • Telekinesis: The ability to move objects/matter with one's mind. As shown in The Unbearable Blightness of Being , Blight (in Gaia's body) was able to move objects and beings solely through the power of her mind.
  • Body Part Switching: The ability to switch an organism's body parts with another organism's. As shown in The Unbearable Blightness of Being , Blight (in Gaia's body) was able to change parts of animals' and insects' bodies with other body parts of other organisms.
  • Energy Bolt Projection: The ability to create and project bolts of energy and control the intensity/power of their projectiles. As shown in The Unbearable Blightness of Being , Blight (in Gaia's body) was able to project powerful bolts of energy that could send even Captain Planet flying.
  • Ocean Manipulation: The ability to create, shape, and manipulate the oceans and seas and everything in them. As shown in Fare Thee Whale , Gaia could summon whales, and in The Unbearable Blightness of Being , Blight (in Gaia's body) could manipulate the waters of the ocean to attack Captain Planet.
  • Cloth Manipulation: The ability to manipulate cloths and textiles.
  • Erasure: The ability to erase things from existence. As shown in No Place Like Home , Gaia caused an injured coyote's restraints to disappear from reality, freeing it.
  • Environmental Purification: The ability to purify/refresh entire environments. As shown in No Place Like Home , Gaia was able to restore any damaged nature back to the time where it was healthy and glorious - as she approached the injured coyote to help it, her very presence and every step she took restored the surrounding damaged habitat to full health, with fresh lush grass and beautiful flowers blooming.
  • Healing: The ability to restore biotic organisms to their optimal health. As shown in No Place Like Home , Gaia healed a coyote's injured paw just by touching it with her hands.

Weaknesses and limitations [ ]

Though Gaia is a mighty supernatural force, she is neither omnipotent nor invincible:

  • As the Spirit of Earth, Gaia's health is directly linked to the condition of both Hope Island and the entire Earth, and so, if either the island, or the planet, or both are too severely damaged, she would become gravely ill and weak, and could even die.
  • As shown in the likes of Greenhouse Planet , Gaia is unable to reach outside the Earth's orbit unless she and Captain Planet combine all their powers.
  • While Gaia is able to appear as a holographic image at absolutely any place she desired on Earth, she is unable to manifest in a corporeal form anywhere outside Hope Island, unless protected inside one of the giant crystals that can be found on the island. However, should the crystal that she is protected in be broken or destroyed, Gaia would become mortal, and her control over the Earth's timeline would end, resulting in time affecting beings and places in various ways.
  • As shown in the likes of The Unbearable Blightness of Being and No Place Like Home , Gaia could be vulnerable to highly advanced science and technology.

History [ ]

Before the show [ ].

Gaia became the current Spirit of Earth after apparently having defeated and exiled her predecessor/ex-coworker who tried to destroy her and Captain Planet since then.

Season 1 [ ]

After a droplet of water, fallen in through the Crystal Chamber's cracked ceiling, interrupts her century-long nap, Gaia is shocked to discover the extent of damage the humanity has done to the Earth in the last hundred years. Thus, she sends out five magic rings to five very special young people from various parts of the world. She then mysteriously/magically brings the kids to Hope Island , dubs them the Planeteers and, after some quick explanations, sends them out to their first mission. ( A Hero for Earth )

When Ma-Ti struggles with self-esteem issues, Gaia appears to him as a hologram and encourages him to try and overcome his fears. Later, she appears again to congratulate him on a job well done. ( Rain of Terror )

After the Planeteers turn away from her for Zarm's literal "iron fists" that increase their elemental powers a hundred-fold, Gaia becomes mortal and nearly is killed. She stops the Planeteers from using Zarm's super-powers to unwittingly help him stage a nuclear war, by showing what Zarm's reign did to his last planet. The Planeteers then abandon Zarm and restore Gaia as a spirit, while Zarm is sent back into deep space by Captain Planet. ( The Conqueror )

Season 2 [ ]

Add details here.

Season 3 [ ]

Season 4 [ ], season 5 [ ], season 6 [ ], relationships [ ], planeteers [ ].

Throughout the show, it is evident that Gaia loves the Planeteers as if they were her own children. She's always there to offer them good advice or encouragement, if needed, and does so in a kind, soft voice. However, she can also be a little harsher if there's an argument to interrupt [6] or someone to be scolded [7] .

Her support for Planeteers is usually purely spiritual, as she can't leave Hope Island for long . Nevertheless, their safety is one of her top priorities; in the  Summit to Save Earth Part I , she doesn't hesitate to get in an intense battle against Zarm, just to rescue the kids. Sadly, when he attacks the Planeteers directly, she stops for a moment to make sure they're okay, thus getting distracted and losing the fight.

She also seems to have a special bond with Ma-Ti from the word-go ; it's worth noting that he's the only Planeteer who didn't betray her for one of Zarm's " Iron Fists ". However, it's unclear what is the cause for their closeness – him being her favorite as the youngest kid, or the power of Heart being able to strengthen such bonds.

Captain Planet [ ]

Gaia and Captain Planet don't have much screen-time together, mainly due to her staying on Hope Island while he assists the Planeteers on their missions and/or him returning to his crystal matrix as soon as his work is done. However, when they do interact, they get along well and show that they care for each other. This is best visible by the end of  Summit to Save Earth Part II ; when the Planeteers summon him to deal with Zarm, Captain Planet first forces Zarm back into his ship, gives Gaia a quick hug and then proceeds to send Zarm back where he'd come from.

Zarm is Gaia's archenemy. It's unclear whether or not his hate for her is reciprocated. There's also little to no information to whether they'd been meant to guard Earth together or if Gaia had replaced him. In any case, ever since he lost his Spirit of Earth status and left the planet, presumably due to having been defeated and banished by Gaia, or removed from office by the other gods, he tries to destroy her, Captain Planet and the Earth as revenge. Gaia is aware of this and won't hesitate to use her powers to stop him.

Doctor Blight [ ]

Significant episodes [ ].

  • A Hero for Earth – Gaia, awoken from her century-long nap, finds Earth in a critical state and summons the Planeteers.
  • The Conqueror – Gaia is turned mortal after four Planeteers are misled by Zarm. Now she and Ma-Ti, who stayed loyal to her, need to stop the others from destroying a missile base and, consequently, the entire planet.
  • Heat Wave – Dr. Blight creates a greenhouse effect in a force field over Hope Island. The increasing pollution starts destroying the island, thus threatening Gaia's life. The Planeteers start a race against time to save her.
  • Summit to Save Earth Part I – Gaia sends her Planeteers to the Earth Summit. When they are tricked and captured by Zarm, she rushes to rescue them. However, Zarm uses the Planeteers as a distraction to turn Gaia into a very old mortal woman.
  • Summit to Save Earth Part II – The Planeteers enlist Commander Clash's help to save Gaia, who will turn into dust if Zarm isn't defeated.
  • The Unbearable Blightness of Being – Dr. Blight creates a mind switcher through which she gets hold of Gaia's powers to use them against the Planeteers and the Earth. Meanwhile Gaia, with the help of MAL, who wasn't informed on Blight's plan, tries to undo the damage and get the Planeteers to trust her so she can reclaim her body.
  • No Place Like Home – Gaia, infuriated by seeing a coyote family suffer because of human recklessness, leaves Hope Island to personally help the aforementioned animals. Dr. Blight is quick to seize the opportunity and turn the Spirit of Earth into a mortal once more. Soon, the Planeteers and Captain Planet notice their powers are gone. Their only chance to regain them is to find Gaia and get her back to Hope Island before sunrise.

Greeting Goddess Gaia

It’s hard to begin a discourse on Gaia without moving into poetry, song and dance. Such is her love for us that I immediately bow in awe for the bounty she offers.

In the time before time

I heard a call from the cosmos

of such illustrious beauty

I succumbed

answering the call of Gaia

to help her seed a new land

where love was all

and yet have I to yearn for the affections of another

Who is Gaia?

Quite simply, Gaia is life. She is all, the very soul of the earth. She is a goddess who, by all accounts, inhabits the planet, offering life and nourishment to all her children.

In the ancient civilizations, she was revered as mother, nurturer and giver of life. It’s she who created and sustained us, and to whom we returned upon death.

She goes by many names, but in an effort to better connect and understand this energy, we’ll explore the myriad of forms in which she appears on Earth.

Ancient Ways and Goddess Traditions

Every culture has their version of the Earth Goddess. The Greeks called her Gaia, while the Incas know her as PachaMama. In some cases, she predates writing: ancient, pre-linguistic references to her have been found, alongside shrines, statues and paintings of her in every corner of the globe. She is the first goddess, the primeval one, the creator of all life and the fullness of her legacy is still being resurrected after patriarchal suppression.

The paleolithic Venus figures dot all of Europe, hearkening a worship of the feminine earth mother which has been lost to us. Despite the efforts of many historians, archaeologists and artists, we’re only now beginning to remember the stories of the goddess.

In any sincere effort to unearth her, we must look to the oldest documented accounts.

Gaia in Greek Mythology

To the Greeks, Gaia was the ultimate goddess of raw, maternal power. In the beginning, there was chaos, nebulous ethers waiting to take form. This primordial landscape awaited direction; it’s then that the spirit of Gaia arrived to give structure to the formless and the Earth was conceived.

She became the Earth, birthing all form of landscape, plant and creature. Though her creation was majestic, her solitude was great. She longed for love and created the sky with whom she mated, igniting a creative force which birthed countless offspring: Time and the Fates, the Muses and the oceans, to name a few. She’s considered the primeval mother of whom all gods—and life itself—descended.

As the prevalence of gods and goddesses in the 19th and 20th centuries faded away, so did history books’ tales of female pharaohs, women scientists and amazon warriors. History is kept by the victors—and the victors are most often men. This left a void in collective consciousness and Gaia was relegated to mythology alone.

With the convergence of feminism in the 1970s, all that changed when a groundbreaking pro-female establishment was founded, providing new understanding of how our planet operates.

The Gaia Theory

In 1970, chemist James Lovelock and his research partner Lynn Margulis (the wife of Carl Sagan at the time) proposed that the earth is a living being, self-regulating the elements to sustain life on it. This revolutionary hypothesis was seen as heretical, but has since been accepted as fact; a theory, no longer a hypothesis.

Their work suggested that in the earth chemicals all “talk” to one another to protect life on the planet; the salt in the ocean is never too salinated, the oxygen in the atmosphere never too noxious, and the temperature of the earth never grows too hostile for life to thrive. All elements work in perfect harmony to ensure life on earth is sustained.

The stability of life and its consistent ability to self-regulate and protect earth’s creatures connotes a universe much more intelligent than previously imagined.

Gaia theory taught that a sophisticatedly aware universe is regulating these many facets to protect and preserve life on the planet, much as a mother protects her own children.

Far beyond a comforting ideology, we can find evidence in spiritual traditions which give heed to the belief of the earth as a loving mother, further nurturing our human relationship with Gaia.

Resurgence of Gaia

A new curiosity about the history and meaning of Gaia has recently been sparked. Men and women have begun to seek to understand this innate consciousness. What they’re finding is far from surprising, as the idea of characterizing the earth energy is present in the wisdom of two of the most enduring native traditions, Chinese medicine and Native American theology .

Chinese Five Element Theory

Among the oldest healing modalities on the planet is Chinese 5 Element theory. Before Mao Tse-Tung instituted a politicized Traditional Chinese Medicine, there existed a theory based not only in physical, but rooted in a spiritual understanding of life. Five Element theory honors the Earth energy as maternal, warm, nurturing and joyous. Abundant in its gifts, earth’s energy is the sound of laughter on a late summer day.

If someone has an unbalanced earth energy, they could fear security, develop eating disorders and may never feel satisfied in life. It’s these qualities of being fulfilled, complete and secure that earth gives us.

Native American Medicine Wheel

Equal in its enduring wisdom, the Native American Medicine Wheel is a way of understanding our world as practiced by every indigenous nation. By working with the directions or elements, we can be in harmony with nature.

On the wheel, the earth lies in the south and is the ruler of bounty, expansive growth, passion, peace and relationships. To work with the earth energies of the south ensures we are in communion with the spirit of abundance, joy and creation.

Both ideologies are based in an understanding of the world as interwoven and infinitely more complex than Western beliefs convey. Though from different parts of the world, both teachings characterize the energy of earth as the same: loving, generous and maternal, a protector of people and the planet.

Enduring Relevance

Far beyond the mythological Gaia, the name has come to represent an all-loving, nurturing and intelligent cosmic force which oversees life on earth. The goddess traditions have worked tirelessly to resurrect the ancient teachings of the Great Mother and ensure her presence as a force of love on the planet.

More than saving the planet or participating in Earth Day celebrations, we can treat everyday like a ceremony. To be in a sincere connected relationship with Gaia, we must acknowledge her sundry gifts and be open to receive her wisdom.

Ways to Be Present With Gaia

In her infinite love, we may forget to acknowledge all the bounty she offers. Here are a few spaces to reconnect, remembering the loving presence of Gaia all around you. To be in ceremony in every moment allows us to rise as co-creators with her now.

See your food as sacred nourishment. This will not only raise your vibration but it will also ensure more mindful presence when you can be aware of where the blessings came from. She not only provides the crops, but also the earth in which they grow.

From the wood under your feet to the aluminum siding surrounding you and the tar on the roof overhead, all these materials are grown on or in the earth. Be in awe of her myriad of blessings.

Whether or not you’ve been zapped by the crystal bug, you can probably recall seeing a mineral specimen whose beauty moved you. Every jade, amethyst, diamond and shard of obsidian came from Gaia. In her love, she creates the most stunning specimens to support and ease our human existence .

The magnitude of healing plants is astounding. From fresh flowers, to trees, mushrooms to bark, every culture understands the blessings of the plants to heal human ailments.

Pay attention to the plants around you to hear the messages they may be trying to share. Chicory for example is a common weed that grows freely even in the most impoverished areas of urban landscapes. Chicory is an extender spirit, making coffee go further in times of economic depression. If we could remember to use the natural resources of Gaia, we could eradicate or lessen hunger.

Time in Nature

Dr. Joe Dispenza recently reported: “In clinical studies we have proven that 2 hours of nature sounds a day significantly reduces stress hormones up to 800% and activates 500-600 DNA segments known to be responsible for healing and repairing the body.”

To amp up your healing connections, try earthing .

Respect of Natural Resources

It hopefully goes without saying, but being mindful of recycling and limiting your use of synthetic resources will be a great blessing to honor the preservation of Gaia.

The Great Destroyer

While it’s easy to become infatuated with the beauty of Gaia’s gifts, she’s also the great destroyer. As children, at times we will upset mother—so too is this the case with the Great Mother Gaia. Her generosity can be taken advantage of, her lands raped and people harmed.

Just as we disappoint our human mothers and consequences are dispensed, so too does Gaia balance out the injustices she suffers. Famine, extreme weather, volcanoes and tsunamis are the ways she rights herself and restores balance. While these actions could look punitive, it’s destruction in order to create something better which she must enact. Even in chaos, there is purpose beyond what our human minds can see.

By moving into better alignment with her, these unpredictable forces can be ridden with ease and understanding.

Meditation: Connecting with Gaia

Sitting on the earth would be most ideal for this meditation, but as we are working with her Spirit, find any comfortable sitting position and begin to slow your breath.

Bring your awareness gently into your hips and let all the energies of the day go. Focusing on this pelvic bowl, allow your breath to expand all the way down into your abdomen. Bring anything which causes discomfort or distress there now.

See beneath you the earth, open to greet you, and a red and gold spiral of light begins to glow at your perineum. This light spirals into the earth, ushering you into her most sacred center.

Feel yourself gently drifting to the center of the earth, into her cosmic womb of creation and destruction. You will feel a natural resting place and appreciate the serene calmness around you. Sit in this quiet and be with the calm energy she offers.

If you wish, ask for a figure of Gaia. You may see her as a woman, a goddess, a color or a symbol. Whatever arises is perfect for you now and will offer a meaningful tool to deepen your relationship with her.

When you feel finished, thank her and allow your attention to come back into your body. Open your eyes slowly and celebrate your newfound connection.

Shifting to Honor Gaia

Each time we honor Gaia and all she represents, we honor the love of a living and present universe around us. In these ways, we’re participating in the expansion of a cosmic consciousness.

Your intimate work with her will remind you resolutely that there’s always more than enough and all of your needs are provided for. By being in this awareness, you can see through the illusions and understand the beliefs that are truly damaging our planet. It’s only through shifting our own perceptions that we may link with the consciousness of Gaia to change the earth.

Sekhmet, the Egyptian Goddess of War and Female Empowerment

Few historical places on earth perpetually spur such a strong sense of mystery and interest as ancient Egypt. Though millennia have passed since the days of the pharaohs, mythological figures whose presence adorn myriad walls, monoliths, and scriptures, continue to inspire those who find meaning in what they represent. Among them is the powerful lioness goddess Sekhmet, perhaps the ultimate mythological representation of female power.

Sekhmet, also spelled Sachmet, Sekhet, Sakhet or Sakhmet, was one of the oldest gods and goddesses in the ancient Egyptian pantheon who went by many names and titles, appearing often in her characteristic red dress. She is often associated with the goddesses Hathor and Bastet and is depicted with the Uraeus, associating her with the Wadjet.

Above her upright head, as if postured for battle, is the celestial solar disk, and in her hand, grounded steadfast in the earth is the ankh, the Egyptian symbol of life. When standing or striding, she often holds the papyrus specter symbolizing Lower Egypt.

Scholars note that her scepter is one of the most significant representations of the goddess. And, because Sekhmet has the head of a lioness, some have surmised  that her likeness may have been inherited from Sudan, Egypt’s neighbor to the south, where lions roamed in great prides.

About Spirits of the Earth

An extraordinary compilation of legends and rituals about nature’s ever-present signs. From the birds that soar above us to the insects beneath our feet, Native American healer Bobby Lake-Thom shows how the creatures of the earth can aid us in healing and self-knowledge. “There are ancient secrets and lessons hidden in nature. If you seek for guidance, you will discover truth.”—Bobby Lake-Thom Much of the ancient knowledge that has been passed down from Native American medicine men, or shamans is in danger of being lost. Bobby Lake-Thom, a Native American healer known as Medicine Grizzly Bear, has sought to preserve this powerful heritage by sharing his wisdom and experience learning from the world around us.  What does it mean if a hawk appears in a dream? What are the symbolic interpretations of a deer, a skunk, a raccoon? Lake-Thom, who has studied with the elders of many tribes, explains the significance of animal figures as manifestations of good or evil, and shows how we can develop our own powers of awareness and intuition. The first book of its kind, this practical and enlightening resource includes dozens of fascinating animal myths and legends, as well as exercises and activities that draw upon animal powers for guidance, healing, wisdom, and the expansion of spiritual influences in our lives. You’ll discover here: • How animals, birds, and insects act as signs and omens • The significance of vision quests • How to make and use a medicine wheel • The role of spirit symbols—and how they affect the unconscious • Exercises for creative dreaming • The power of the earth-healing ceremony • How to increase your spiritual strength and create sacred spaces • And more….

Business | Microsoft says state-backed Russian hackers accessed emails of senior leadership team members

spirit of earth

By FRANK BAJAK (AP Technology Writer)

BOSTON (AP) — State-backed Russian hackers broke into Microsoft’s corporate email system and accessed the accounts of members of the company’s leadership team, as well as those of employees on its cybersecurity and legal teams, the company said Friday.

In a blog post, Microsoft said the intrusion began in late November and was discovered on Jan. 12. It said the same highly skilled Russian hacking team behind the SolarWinds breach was responsible.

“A very small percentage” of Microsoft corporate accounts were accessed, the company said, and some emails and attached documents were stolen.

A company spokesperson said Microsoft had no immediate comment on which or how many members of its senior leadership had their email accounts breached. In a regulatory filing Friday, Microsoft said it was able to remove the hackers’ access from the compromised accounts on or about Jan. 13.

“We are in the process of notifying employees whose email was accessed,” Microsoft said, adding that its investigation indicates the hackers were initially targeting email accounts for information related to their activities.

The Microsoft disclosure comes a month after a new U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission rule took effect that compels publicly traded companies to disclose breaches that could negatively impact their business. It gives them four days to do so unless they obtain a national-security waiver.

In Friday’s SEC regulatory filing, Microsoft said that “as of the date of this filing, the incident has not had a material impact” on its operations. It added that it has not, however, “determined whether the incident is reasonably likely to materially impact” its finances.

Microsoft, which is based in Redmond, Washington, said the hackers from Russia’s SVR foreign intelligence agency were able to gain access by compromising credentials on a “legacy” test account, suggesting it had outdated code. After gaining a foothold, they used the account’s permissions to access the accounts of the senior leadership team and others. The brute-force attack technique used by the hackers is called “password spraying.”

The threat actor uses a single common password to try to log into multiple accounts. In an August blog post, Microsoft described how its threat-intelligence team discovered that the same Russian hacking team had used the technique to try to steal credentials from at least 40 different global organizations through Microsoft Teams chats.

“The attack was not the result of a vulnerability in Microsoft products or services,” the company said in the blog. “To date, there is no evidence that the threat actor had any access to customer environments, production systems, source code, or AI systems. We will notify customers if any action is required.”

Microsoft calls the hacking unit Midnight Blizzard. Prior to revamping its threat-actor nomenclature last year, it called the group Nobelium. The cybersecurity firm Mandiant, owned by Google, calls the group Cozy Bear.

In a 2021 blog post, Microsoft called the SolarWinds hacking campaign “the most sophisticated nation-state attack in history.” In addition to U.S. government agencies, including the departments of Justice and Treasury, more than 100 private companies and think tanks were compromised, including software and telecommunications providers.

The main focus of the SVR is intelligence-gathering. It primarily targets governments, diplomats, think tanks and IT service providers in the U.S. and Europe.
