Don Juan II: The Only Michelin-Starred Cruise on the Seine
There are Seine river cruises, and then there’s the Don Juan II. Moored at Passerelle Debilly opposite the Eiffel Tower, this historic Art Deco yacht is kitted out with fireplaces, framed paintings and a wood-paneled bar from where you can order a flute of Champagne before your dinner cruise. Designed by the Maison Pierre Frey, it’s all elegance- down to the gold-colored curtains framing the windows. What’s more, there are only 12 tables (maximum capacity of 38 guests) so it’s an intimate affair.

But let’s talk about the food, shall we? It’s a truth universally acknowledged that river cruises have mediocre, ho-hum cuisine (after all, the view is the star of the show). Yet on the Don Juan II, the food is so good, it’s a distraction- you end up paying more attention to your plate than the stunning scenery out the window.
That’s because Chef Frédéric Anton is at the helm. He’s the culinary maestro who holds three Michelin stars at Le Pré Catelan in the 16th, and one star at Le Jules Verne , the gastronomic hot spot atop the Eiffel Tower. In fact, he’s also been awarded a Michelin star for the Don Juan II- making it the only Seine river cruise to hold such an honor.

What’s on the dinner menu? It’s a glorious culinary parade with dishes staggered so they served in front of each major landmark: the Musée d’Orsay, the Monnaie de Paris, Notre-Dame, Hotel de Ville, the Conciergerie and the Louvre . Ingredients are seasonal, so the menu reflects what’s being grown at the moment. To wit: amuse-bouches of fried artichoke with anchovy cream, a flan-like marvel with fennel and caviar topped with elderflowers, a crab delicacy resembling an apple meringue, the signature langoustine ravioli topped with a golden jelly, and pan-fried lamb with morel mushrooms in a Jura wine sauce. To cap off your feast, the chocolate soufflé with pistachio ice cream is sublime.
Don Juan II The multi-course dinner is 240€. Wine pairing is extra. Boarding at the Port Debilly (Paris 16) starting at 7:45 pm until 8:15 pm. Departure at 8:30 pm with a return to the quay at 10:30- 11 pm. Tel: +33 (0)1 83 77 44 40 Email: [email protected]

The ambiance was enchanting, the service was impeccable, and the cuisine exceeded all expectations. Every dish was a masterpiece, showcasing the chef's creativity and culinary expertise. The attention to detail and the exquisite flavors made it a truly memorable dining experience. I can't wait to return and savor the exceptional dishes again. Thank you, Don Juan II, for an unforgettable evening! <3333 Read more Written February 9, 2024
- Elena0103 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Amazing dinner Great food experience. Firstly you have a cruise on the river. Only few moments to improve: 1 boat team could be more proactive to offer a blanket to cover shoulders as it’s cold in the evening outside of the boat (we were cold, and we didn’t know there are blankets). 2 boat roof top chairs in plastic are too cheap and not complicated for such restaurant experience. All the rest is great! Read more Written October 10, 2023
- TeresaB25 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Every superlative deserved! We were worried that we’d be a bit weary our first night in Paris but this dinner cruise ended up being one of our favorite experiences. We were welcomed by gracious staff and seated on the rooftop bar for cocktails. When we entered the boat for dinner, we were served the best meal among many great meals in Paris. The portions were small and interesting, the wine pairing delicious. It’s hard to select a favorite course. You will love it! Read more Written May 14, 2023
- karon526 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A perfect celebration for a special occasion We celebrated our engagement with my parents on Don Juan II and it was incredible. The staff was extremely attentive - our boat was not full so there was actually more staff than attendees. Every table looks out the windows for an incredible view. They time the tour accordingly so you are right under the Eiffel Tower at night when the lights sparkle and it provides a perfect backdrop for photos (which they are also able to take for you if you want, although for a hefty charge). The food was very good as was the wine, I enjoyed every course. I would definitely recommend this for a special occasion or elevated experience while in Paris! Read more Written March 7, 2020

We were met by a well dressed gentleman at our taxi and escorted onto the yacht... and had time to enjoy a glass of perfectly chilled champagne top deck as we viewed Notre Dame in the distance. Once the other 14 guests arrived, we settled into our beautifully set table and enjoyed a wonderful meal and excellent wine (very good wine list) Would highly recommend this excursion...nice way to end a lovely day in Paris.... - pgilbert9350 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Substantial decline in quality since 2012 My husband and I had an awesome dinner on the Don Juan II (Yachtes de Paris) back in 2012. The food was wonderful. The service was outstanding. And, the view of the Parisian buildings was magical. So, I was hoping to wow my mother and sister on our visit to Paris this past week. The only thing that didn't change was the view of the Parisian buildings. The service kept getting our requirements mixed up (no CRAB and no veal and one of us was ok with fois gras). In addition, my chicken breast was very tough. I don't know if the Yachtes de Paris has changed chefs but if so, the management needs to consider another change. Very Disappointed. - JoshL2406 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Exceptional Not sure what anyone could find to complain about as this is a wonderful experience. The good was excellent, the Yacht and service are manificent. Be sure to switch off the light on the photo on the wall next to your table as, when on, it reflects the photo into the view window and disrupts the view. The staff is incredible and treated us like royalty. And yes there's an onboard photographer and yes the photos are pricey but you spent all that money to come to Paris, didn't you? Don't listen to the complainers, they likely aren't happy anywhere. This is a wonderful experience. Read more Written September 23, 2018

- sarafinadh 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Top Flight Tourist Trap Not much of a crowd joiner. But Himself wanted to do a Seine cruise on this trip since I stonewalled the last time we were here. I figured if I could stand Moulin Rouge I could stand a cheesy boat ride, right? I was so very pleasantly surprised by our experience on the Don Juan II. The boat (keel laid in 1921) is immaculate, the dining room is small and has only 8 or 10 tables. Everything is very luxe and carefully presented. We were a party of 4 and the first to arrive. We took seats on the top deck and had drinks and lovely little hors d'oeuvres. The photographer was a bit of an annoyance to me, but I suspect many passengers like the feature. In any event she was very courteous and left when we had had enough. We launched on time and set out up river a short way. The staff provides a quiet low key commentary and as we cruised by one of the Bateau Mouches I offered up my thanks to my husband for arranging such a nice evening for us and said how happy I was to 'not' be on that boat! Shortly we turned around and headed down river. We would reach the little Statue of Liberty and be below the Tour d'Eiffel before we turned once again and headed up river to dock at the end of the evening. We were escorted down to a lovely dinner in the dinning room and all of the courses were delicious. Again, much better quality that what I expected on such a touristy thing. Service was impeccable as well. The only thing I didn't love was the chicken breast. They were a tiny bit over cooked which left them a bit dry and not very tender. Happily the breast was served with a thigh confit that was delicious and we just left the breast and enjoyed the thigh. The servings were generous so no one is going to leave hungry. Dessert was the bomb, with a delectable little iced macaron as the piece d' resistance. So Good! Sometimes you just have to suck it up and own being a tourist. The Don Juan allows you to do it in style and enjoy the experience! Read more Written May 9, 2018
- mwflanders 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles A great evening spoiled by greedy operator The operators went to considerable efforts to make this an outstanding trip. Brilliant service and first class food. Almost faultless. What a shame that we decided to make the evening really special and book the hotel to boat pick up. Yachts de Paris charged 140 euro for this service. At the end of the boat trip we were informed that the taxi was one way only and we would have to pay again for a taxi back to our hotel. The boat called a ‘normal’ taxi which charged only 23 euros. This just highlighted how much they had ripped us off in the first place. Read more Written April 7, 2018

And the food? Just great. Very well presented , delicate, well cooked , well served but not too much just right , suffisant wine list with affordable good wines. Yes it is pricy but worth it. Superb experience ! Very limited seating so booking is mandatory. Read more Written March 4, 2018

Yachts de Paris Seine River Gastronomic Dinner Cruise provided by Don Juan II
An authentic yacht from the ’50s, the luxurious Don Juan sails the Seine for those nostalgic and romantic souls. Refined cuisine created by the inventive Jean-Pierre Vigato files past the windows with their panoramic views. Filtered light falls on leather and velour furniture, harps and violins provide a musical backdrop. All the clichés are gathered together in this enchanting place, even the famous stop in front of the magnificent Eiffel Tower.

Restaurants in Paris: Don Juan II, An Elegant Yacht on the Seine
Among the many misconceptions about the life of a food writer is that members of this tribe of scribes are impossibly fussy and turn up their noses at anything that isn’t dripping with caviar or truffles. The fact of the matter is, anyone who really loves good food loves it at all levels of the food chain, from really good bread and butter with a bowl of great onion soup in a café to the much rarer occasion of a poulet de Bresse en demi-deuil (in half mourning, or with discs of black truffle slid under its skin before it’s roasted). And, as far as I’m concerned, as much as I admire haute cuisine, my truest passion in the canon of Gallic gastronomy will always be the country’s great bistro dishes, whether they’re homely and rustic, as found in country auberges , or dressed up for town as la cuisine bourgeoise .
Just like everyone else, I’ve also had occasion to eat at a tourist trap or two, because I’d made a luck-of-the-draw choice when I was hungry and cutting it close to the end of serving hours, or because I often accompany friends visiting Paris to restaurants they want to try. After all, there’s nothing drearier than the relentless expert, so when pals from Hong Kong came to town recently and invited me to join them for dinner on Don Juan II, an elegant yacht that does a dinner cruise on the Seine, I went along with curiosity, but modest expectations, since it seemed unlikely that we’d actually have a good meal there. Why? Well, for lots of reasons – not the least of them being that no live-flame cooking can be done aboard for fire reasons, and that the small size of any ship galley limits things as well, which means that a lot of what you eat will have been prepared in a prep kitchen on shore before you and your dinner embark.
Whether or not the journey led to exalted gastronomic pleasure, however, you’d have to be a real pill not to enjoy a night-time cruise on the Seine, since the river remains Paris’s most historic boulevard and offers some of the most exquisite urban scenery to be seen anywhere in the world. And so I boarded at Port Henri IV and met my sleepy friends (they’d just arrived in Paris). We were immediately brightened up a bit by a glass of champagne before being ushered to our table in the sleekly decorated dining room with fitted anthracite-and-blue carpet with an Art Deco motif and leather tub chairs set at white linen dressed tables decorated with potted orchids next to the ship’s picture windows.
We were so engrossed in catching up and the beauty of Paris by night that it took a lot for my attention to be brought to heel by our meal, but this happened as soon as our amuse-bouche was served, a charming quenelle of dressed crabmeat with mango tartare and puffed quinoa. The crab was perfectly picked and flavoured, and the quinoa garnish served warning that this meal would not be a wedding-lunch-in-the-provinces type of event, since it was such a knowing wink at current urban food trends towards healthy eating. Next up? An elegant starter of Canadian lobster medallions with daikon and mushroom milk. This dish was a conversation stopper, too.
Delicious dining aboard the Don Juan II
“Very nice, isn’t it?” said my friend Victoria, with an undertone of surprise that matched mine. “You know, we’ve never done a cruise on the Seine, and this looked more intimate and comfortable than the other ones we considered,” she explained, adding, “So we went ahead and booked, even though we didn’t have particularly high expectations of the meal. But so far this is delicious.”
And so it went on, with an exquisitely roasted chicken served in two courses, the first with chestnuts and parsnips, the second with sautéed foie gras. An exceptionally good Ossau-Iraty came to table as the cheese course, and dessert was an elegant and darkly delicious chocolate Eiffel Tower filled with blackcurrant gelée , served with perfect timing, since the famous tower started shimmering, as it does on the hour, just as we pulled abreast of it.
Dom Pérignon Vintage 2009 was generously poured throughout the meal, and a lush Domaine Pouderoux 2015 Maury paired perfectly with dessert. At €190 per person, this meal falls squarely in the special-occasion category but, given the superb setting, service, and scenery, along with the surprisingly excellent cooking, this actually worked out as good value for money – sort of like dinner and a play rolled into one – and a lovely night out all round.

Michelin-star Dining on the Don Juan II Yacht with Chef Frédéric Anton
Yachts de Paris announces its gastronomic cruise on the Don Juan II Yacht offers one-star Michelin dining. The famous restaurant guide has acknowledged Chef Frédéric Anton, which means the Seine trip is the only one to offer Michelin-star cuisine.
Paris has always been renowned for fine dining and has many Michelin-starred restaurants. A unique experience is now available where you can take in the stunning scenes of Paris while you float along the Seine , enjoying delightful meals made by Frédéric Anton. He has been awarded a star for his cooking on the Don Juan II yacht, making it the first-ever cruise to offer such highly-rated cuisine.
On the menu: A two-hour sailing experience, including a prestigious dinner on the most beautiful avenue in Paris, the River Seine. Frédéric Anton’s cruise spans the stretch of river between the Eiffel tower and the Conciergerie, offering a handful of lucky diners the chance to admire the French capital in all its shining glory, with its offer of gastronomic cruises on the Don Juan II.
At the helm of this legendary yacht, the multi-starred chef creates an intimate experience that reflects his style: subtle and refined cuisine that embodies a perfect harmony between aesthetic beauty and taste.
The unforgettable cruise combines the cosy atmosphere of a ship from the last century featuring an Art Deco interior with the magical monuments of the City of Light and the best in French gastronomy.
Dedicated to serving delicious, top-quality cuisine to his guests, Frédéric Anton selects seasonal products and concocts his menus to reflect his expertise. And his dedication has been rewarded! His food brings guests together and is served uniquely, reflecting his ambition to make this new Parisian location a pillar in French fine dining.
An example of the seasonal menu is,
- Fennel Cream and roasted seeds, Dashi flan, Caviar
- Crab Flavoured with Curry, Grapefruit “Zéphyr”
- Langoustine Prepared as a Ravioli, American sauce, thin Gold jelly
- Lamb Pan-fried, Peas flavoured with Nutmeg and “jus gras”
- Chocolate Warm Soufflé, Pistachio ice cream.
The price per person is 240 Euros.
Indulge in your starter whilst sailing by the Sacre Coeur, devour your fish course taking in the fabulous Notre Dame cathedral, and savour the lamb seeing the Eiffel Tower. As the cruise ends, you finish your dessert and have experienced a fantastic two hours on the Seine.
For 25 years, Frédéric Anton has upheld his values of creating “simple, effective and unadulterated” food. As a Meilleur Ouvrier de France and chef at Pré Catelan (three Michelin stars) and Jules Verne (one Michelin star), Frédéric Anton has the opportunity to express the full range of his talent and uphold his high standards here on board the Don Juan II. His leitmotiv is the use of seasonal products due to rigorous sourcing.
This naturalistic approach is perfectly in line with the chef’s values. He has always been committed to total transparency about the origin of his produce, determined to fight against food waste and devoted to allowing the seasons to guide his cuisine, and not the other way around.
This first Michelin star acknowledges Frédéric Anton’s know-how and recognises his entire crew and restaurant team’s effort.
“I am delighted that the hard work of the entire Don Juan II team since the opening has been recognised. This first star in the Michelin Guide underlines our ambition,” said Frédéric.
